We have been designing and building residential and small office environments since 1972. Our areas of emphasis have been land planning, site planning, historic renovations, guest parking, entrance courts, backyard entertainment areas, intimate gardens, residential landscape design, and commercial landscape design. OUTDOOR SPACES Residential outdoor spaces serve various functions:
From the picture we give the public of the front of our homes, to the patios and gardens of a private back yard enjoyed with family and friends, each space has its own atmosphere. Whether Williamsburg, Oriental, or 17th Century French style, certain landscape design proportions, functional workings and human needs are fundamental. The area must not only create the intended atmosphere, but it must also function properly with regard to factors such as drainage, privacy, and ease of use. CONCEPT AND PLAN Program development creates the list of needs and desires of the client. The object is to transform this list into a concept and a plan. A concept determines the direction of the project. It is developed by the owner and the landscape designer; each contributes from previous experience. The plan may be a master plan of the property with various phases of construction. It may have supporting plans for drainage, construction details, irrigation, lighting, landscaping, and others. It may also be a simple one page blueprint. Just as with the plans for a home, the landscape plans must convey a complete picture to the owner, and have details of construction well thought out. CRAFTSMANSHIP Proper execution of the plan is an integral part of the process. By the time construction is ready to begin, it will become the most important part. It is the last step in the process of developing a unique and comfortable home setting. Correct alignment, fit, and grade can help make an area overflow with pleasant impressions just as poor alignment, fit and grade can detract from the best of designs. A good mix of skill with proven techniques and a knowledge of innovative materials is necessary to create the final product. |
